Aesthetic Absconder: My Momma

2013-01-09_15-57-41_302
My sister saw this and exclaimed, "You guys are the same person!"

This is my mom, Jo Haltermon. She was born in 1954 and, from what I can tell, has always had amazing, effortless style.

You can probably tell that I get most of my looks from her. As a kid, my grandmother would occasionally call me "Jo" because we looked so similar. Though, to be fair, Mamaw usually slipped when I was acting out. Maybe Mom and I just share a parallel sense of mischief? Either way, I'll take it.

Mom found a tiny pile of portraits from her youth the other day, and I couldn't wait to share her singular style with you. Let's all dress like Jo!

My mom and her younger sister Alison have always been close. The photos on left feature Mom and Alison being adorbs and on the right, they pose with some little boys (Uncle Steve and Uncle Chris?) and a cake.

I think the photo on the left is Mom's high school photo and the right shows her getup the day she graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati.

When I showed this to Momma, she giggled and said, "That's our parade!" I'm not sure what that means. She's the gal in the middle, wrangling puppies.

Mom partook in the Society for Creative Anachronism. I love it. And I included the pic on the right because Quincy just took a very similar image of me... On my laptop, of course.

This is from my grandma's scrapbook of their trip to Europe. I definitely heard all about the rock-hard rolls.

Mom and Dad. They still do that all the time. Get a room, parents! And on the right, Mom, Gramma, and Alison.

Could be one of my favorite blog posts by anyone ever. I love looking at these snapshots of the time and seeing your face in your mom's. And that one gazing up at your dad's face killed me (in a good, if wistful, way)!

What a lovely comment! I am so so happy you enjoyed the post! And seriously, if you hung out with my parents, you'd see the Haltermon schmoop face more than you'd care to! Heehee!

How fun! My mom had some amazing 70s style back in the day. You've inspired me to look through old photos of her as well!
